A man was Friday night gunned down by a minibus passenger who was then shot and injured by a policeman on Mandela Avenue (Back Road) during an argument, police said in a statement.
The dead man has been identified as 21-year old Gregory Elvis Fernandes of Mandela Avenue, West Ruimveldt. He was shot to his chest.
Lloyden Britton, 22, who allegedly shot Fernandes, was admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) under police guard with a wound to the abdomen.
Britton, of Surat Drive, Beterverwagting, underwent surgery Friday night.
Police later said initial investigations revealed that the driver of a mini-bus and the driver of a motor car had an argument earlier at Mandela Avenue as a result of an accident involving the two vehicles.
The drivers later crossed paths again along Mandela Avenue as the mini-bus stopped to put off a passenger and another argument arose. On that occasion, police said, Fernandes and a plain clothes policeman were in the motor car.
Fernandes and the driver of the car got into an argument with someone in the bus during which he was shot to his chest by a man who was a passenger in the latter vehicle.
The policeman, who was making efforts to pacify the situation, responded and discharged a round from his service firearm which struck Britton. Britton, however, re-entered the mini-bus and was taken to the GPHC by the driver.
The driver and the conductor of the bus were reportedly taken into custody to assist the investigations.
